Tele Skiing at Mount Hotham - Day 2

14 08 2007

Went a lot harder today, took out my GS skis which go faster and turn in a bigger arc. So lots of baralleling down some of the steeper runs carving big graceful turns, well occassionally !

12 runs today around 2800 m in total vertical. Snow was just a little better then the day before being a touch softer and less icy. The bottom of one of the main runs that a lot of runs feed into gets veery chopped up and turns in to this kind of frozen sand. Everyone seems to hate it as it’s like very heavy powder, but for some weird reason I’m quite enjoying that bit as I end up bouncing quickly through a few turns and blasting through the piles of snow. It is a bit of hard work though and by the ned of the day it’s really hard work. Serious jelly quads, they just ache and don’t wnat to move again. A 10 second stop and they recover enough to chuck a few more turns in.

Jelly quads were always my biggest problem downhill skiing. I’d get going carving nice turns, get going faster and faster and have to put more into the turns to keep the speed roughly in control and then BURN BURN BURN and I’d have to pull up to rest. Never got to the point I could really do a 1000 or 2000 ft run without stopping for the jelly quads.
