iPod dock for on the bike

28 06 2007

For all you people getting a bit too bored but hopefully don’t go with the headphones on your bike.

Check out this interesting iPod dock,
Bike iPod Dock

apart from Brad having to blast the Burke-Gillman with some “tasteful” music from his younger days, it could make for an interesting ride.

Swim at Brunswick

28 06 2007

Couldn’t use the double lane today as there was a diving class, bit dsitracting all those bubbles !

Was chasing a guy with tats, who let me past as I got close and then sat on my feet for a few laps, so the middle 10 laps were a bit faster then normal. I wonder if chlorine fades tattoos ??? As I was about to over cook it, he must have stopped the lap before as he wasn’t on my feet anymore .. Need less to say, but the next few laps were a bit slower !

Wet Wet Windy Ride

27 06 2007

Made it out on the bike this morning, as Bronwen planned to entertain the boys, I too spooned at 5 and went out at 10 ! Much more civilized, well sort of !

We are having a big weather event here, now for all of those in the USA, it would be one where the local live vans are spread all over the area with reports being blown sideways, etc so they had something to fill up the local news. Here we don’t really do the local / national news thing, so I didn’t see one live truck anywhere !

However, I did see lots of rain, lots and lots of wind and I even got hit by some sea foam coming home along the beach. It wasn’t too cold, about 11C, but the local weather station along the beach was seeing 60 km/h winds with gusts hitting 75 km/h ! Luckily the ride route, generally follows a S shape so I had pretty much everyway wind, and it wasn’t too far until it changed a bit. The way out was mainly head wind / 2 o’clock so when I turned to head home, after an hour, I suddenly went from struggling along at about 20 km/h to idling along at 40 km/h ! Most of the way home was a breeze, though there was a bit side wind in some bits.

The worst of this was behind about the only three high rises on the beach front, where the gaps between them where the road goes round a roundabout were howling. The first wasn’t too bad but the second one nearly had me up onto the plantation ! A big lean and all was well, at the end of these the road turns toward the beach for about 20 m, as I turned I pretty much came to a complete stop with the wind. Pushing hard and hanging on tight, I made it to the next turn and zipped off but it was prety nasty !

This was the first really wet ride with my new mudguards on the winter bike and they were fabulous. No foutain of water on to the booties, just the odd spray and really just from the rain. My feet were still nice and warm and almost dry when I got home. I was a bit warm under the rain jacket but I’m a big believer in a bit warm then a bit cold ! The rain drops hurt a bit on my head but apart from that a good ride. Only saw one other person out though, funny about that !

Haven’t upload the data yet, looks like I’ve got a few bad read spikes, spinning at 195 in the pouring rain ! With heart really pumping, I think not ! Will clean it up when I do !

Updated: Uploaded the data and fixed up the errors, 165 Max sounds much better the 195 !

Big update today - June data !

16 06 2007

Finally got the heart rate monitor uploaded and then typed everything across. Being a mac guy makes it a touch harder as I can’t get the IR reader to work in Parallels so I have to reboot into Windows (Yuk!) and then upload from the watch. Once the data’s in it’s back to OS-X (ahh!) and then pop open the Polar software in parallels and start to enter it in Safari. Simple, really !

Can’t wait till uploads of data are going, no sleep for Jeff and Brad ! Actually, wasn’t too bad to enter it all in, good system guys !
