Big Ride on the weekend. After a very bad training run up, as in pretty much nothing more then the odd hour long ride every 2nd week or so, I headed off figuring I’d just see how I went.

Well amazingly enough, I actually made it. It was a pretty slow time and included a bit of walking up the really steep hills but a good effort all in all. I’ve got to download my heart rate data and then I’ll add a few more notes on the actual ride.

Back in the Pool!

School holidays and ski trip done, so the boys are back at swimming lessons and I get to go for a swim. Cold day here (11.1˚C), so there was steam rising off the pool. Looked great, was going to grab a photo but they get a bit touchy about wandering around with a phone at the pool these days and it was a bit cool out of the water!

Nice swim, seems a touch slow so maybe I lost count and did a few extra laps, but that rarely happens it’s usually just slow !

Rhys was staying last night so we dragged each other out for a walk. Not quite as far from the new house, might need to add some extra length ! Managed to miss the rain that started just after we got home though !

Swim after Ride and Digging !

What better way to follow my ride and digging today then with a swim while the boys were at swimming lessons. Getting nice and quiet at the pool now with it getting cold, only one other swimmer in my double lane. Yippee ! Went a bit too hard on the last lap and was cramping up heading in to get the boys in the indoor pool after their lesson, managed not to fall over at least !

Ride with Rhys down Beach Road

After a morning of digging in the garden, the first work on our upcoming renovation, Rhys turned up and we headed out for a ride. Nice weather, a touch of chill in the air (16˚ C on the HR monitor) but nothing a wind proof vest didn’t stop. Should have worn the long fingered gloves though! Kept up a good pace and felt nice and worn out by the time we got home.

Rhys and I headed out around 11, though the radar was showing a lot of rain heading our way. We figured at least we would be out when it arrived rather then starting in it. It more or less stayed dry until we turned around and then we had not only rain but a head wind. Made for a bit of extra work on the way home but a good ride anyway!

Skate along the beach

Got in a nice hour on the inline skates whilst the boys were at circus. Fun to get back out onthem again, no falls thankfully, thougbh I did discouver why the ride seemed to be getting a bit harsh. The gel bits in the inner soles are completely dried up and gone! I guess expecting 15+ years of life is a bit much.  I’ll need to stick in some new innersoles, I think.  Better not spend too much though as I reckon the plastic shell must be getting close to the end of it’s life. If I can get consistent with this I can see a nice new pair of 100 mm skates in my future.  Cool!
